From a childhood fascination with glass, Hazel came to work with it as an artist by a roundabout route, through ceramics, creative embroidery and photography.

The Prime Minister of Barbados, Alan Johnson, and Hazel Burnham Hazel showing her glass to the Prime Minister of Barbados, and Alan Johnson (Home Secretary) in her studio.

Having studied Glass Technology and Techniques at the International Glass Centre in the West Midlands, she brought her skills back home to North Lincolnshire where she now works from her studio. In 2005 she was awarded funding from the Arts Council for an architectural kiln, allowing her to produce large scale pieces.

Hazel’s current works have been inspired by her surroundings and are predominantly developed from the landscape and coast of Lincolnshire. Her penchant for vibrant colours gives her work a brightness and individuality.
